77' No Commercial Use, Luis Fulvio, Italy, 2017, 127’, DCP, Original Italian Language, Spanish Subtitles
Do you remember a book entitled Crónica del siglo XX (Chronicle of the 20th Century) that, at one point in time, filled the private libraries in many family homes? In its pages, year after year, month after month, there was a review of the news events and headlines that had marked the calendar of the 20th century. We now revisit that notion of a flashback (which had, at the same time, the paradoxical ability to be nostalgic and futuristic all in one) to situate the starting point of this documentary, a masterfully edited film which serves as a memory and archive for history and for oneself. This is Italy, the year is 1977. This is one of those movies that all filmmakers carry around deep down, inside themselves, and that very rarely explodes so forcefully on the screen.ç
“1977 is the year of my birth – a time when a class struggle that had started ten years before pervaded Italy. There were demonstrations, there were deaths in the streets of Rome, Milan and Bologna, there were attacks by armed groups against the police and journalists. Hundreds of fanzines, new lifestyles, ideals... trying to liberate the human being.... Meanwhile, Elvis was dying in Memphis and punk rock was exploding in London”.
