La Flor is a complex narrative made up of six independent and successive stories. What brings all the narratives together is that the same four actresses perform in each one: Pilar Gamboa, Elisa Carricajo, Laura Paredes and Valeria Correa. The universe of said stories differs radically from one episode to another in search of an extreme. Likewise, the characters played by the four actresses seek the same variety. Pilar Gamboa is an enchantress in the first story, a pop singer in the second, a mute spy in the third and Pilar Gamboa herself in the fourth. She is a secondary—almost invisible—character in the fifth and reappears dramatically in the sixth as an escaped prisoner from the tents of the Pampa Brava in the 19th century. The same happens with the rest, and each must jump from one fictional universe to another, as though they were guests at a masquerade ball. The aim is twofold: first, to turn the actresses into narrative machines; second, to instil in their bodies the obligation and responsibility of bringing said stories to life and provoking in us—like cruel Gorgons—that willing suspension of disbelief that kept Coleridge up at night. Moreover, the jump from one story to another reveals the true faces of these women to us as the stories unfold.
Just as Manet painted his model as a matador in one moment or nude amongst the grass in another, and those successive disguises revealed her, so too La Flor hopes to achieve this with its girls. Their vicissitudes and the various images they inhabit eventually constitute their four portraits.
