Clara lives by the sea in Aquarius, the last old-style building on Boa Viagem Avenue, in Recife. She is a writer and retired journalist, a widow with three adult children and the owner of a cosy apartment full of records and books. Clara resists the attempts of a construction company to go ahead with other plans for the land: to demolish Aquarius and replace it with a new edifice.
