Ion Munduate and Blanca Calvo began an intense artistic collaboration in 1994, from which numerous works emerged, including: Mármara (1994), MMMM (1995), Sangre Grande (1996),Lucía con zeta (1998), LaSola (1999), Flyball, Boj de largo(2000), ASTRA TOUR (2003-2004), Extras de artificio (2005), BAT, Beautiful Animals Trying (2006), Sin título, en colores (2010) and Translation (2013-2015). They situate their practice in discourses of the body whose medium is immateriality, presenting works that appear as the transformation of acts and the production of meaning through a transitory situation.
In parallel, and concerned about the gaps not covered by the context of that time, they conceived of Mugatxoan in 1998, which was to be developed in Arteleku (Donostia/San Sebastián) and subsequently in Fundação de Serralves (Porto). A training project dedicated to research and artistic creation that offers the necessary conditions so that processes that do not fit into traditional systems of production and established work patterns had a place. From 2011 onwards they decided to alter the usual structure of Mugatxoan and deal with projects by subject blocs. The first of these was When The Body Disappears, which extended through several phases and pivoted around two work axes: self-reflexivity and sound as a medium of dematerialisation. In 2015 they received the Gure Aretea prize for Mugatxoan in recognition of an activity carried out in the field of the visual arts.
