There is a physical city that we experience every day, yet, upon observing it through a synthetic perspective, forms are unfurled that oscillate between the recognisable and the unknown, between the identity of the city and its abstraction as something foreign to us. I want to paint a portrait of the urban identity through a lens that is removed from what is human to explore new means of expression and synergies between technology and the human experience of a city.
To do this, I am experimenting with generative models based on convolutional neural networks, deep learning algorithms, and diffusion models. These tools help me explore new visual and sound languages to create experiences with intriguing touches. The project’s artistic practice is focused on two dimensions: the sound space and the visible space of a city.
The result is a collection of experimental pieces that oscillate between abstraction and the imagination of recognisable elements. I am interested in the way that sound and video fade away between unrecognisable sound artefacts, and how a limbo can be achieved where there are elements that are recognised as natural at times, yet dissipate between textures to create an expressionist fabric.
