In 1963, Věra Chytilová, a key figure in the aesthetic and thematic renovation that was the driving force behind the Czech cinema of the 60s, debuted with this feature film that tells the stories of two women in their thirties who seem to have nothing in common but in different ways have to deal with the same problem.
On the one hand it recounts the marriage crisis of Vera, a frustrated housewife who seeks to break with her routine through an extramarital love affair, and on the other hand, the professional crisis of Eva, an Olympic athlete who has to deal with the toughness of her coach.
In Something Different, Věra Chytilová explores the subject that she will address frequently during her career: the emancipation of women. And she does it in black and white, humorously presenting the story of two women in a world of men, and combining performances by professional and amateur actors.
