One foot in tradition and the other in the avant-garde

With this project Elena Setién wants to explore old popular songs from the Basque Country, previous to the nationalist romanticism that swept through Europe, that´s why she thought of bringing in Maite Larburu. Both artists want to put themselves in a pre-industrial Basque Country and imagine how they sang back then - in a more rural environment, with less noise and a more intimate contact with nature. They will have three voices, three violins and a series of effects pedals that bring their versions to a more contemporary place. Thus the title “One foot in tradition and the other in the avant-garde”. The framework offered by Tabakalera with “Musika dena eta eszena” is ideal for this project as it is also a location with history and avant-garde features.
