Patricio Guzman is one of the most internationally renowned Chilean film makers. After the coup in Chile. he remained in the Estadio Nacional de Santiago, isolated and threatened with execution by firing squad. He left the country in November 1973.  He has lived in Cuba, Spain and France, where he currently resides. 

Six of his works have premièred at Cannes, including: The Battle of Chile, Le Cas Pinochet, Salvador Allende and Nostalgia for the Light. With the latter he won the Award for Best Documentary at the European Film Academy Awards in 2010. His latest work The Pearl Button won the Silver Bear at Berlin in 2015. He was invited to be part of the Hollywood Academy in 2013 and is the president and founder of the Santiago Documentary Festival, FIDOCS. Recent retrospectives: British Film Institute, Harvard Film Archive.
