On January 5, 2022, the new Nosferatu cycle will begin at Tabakalera, dedicated on this occasion to the 70th anniversary of the San Sebastian Festival (1953-2022).
The Nosferatu "Zinemaldia 70" cycle, organized by Donostia Kultura, Filmoteca Vasca and the San Sebastian Festival, with the collaboration of Tabakalera and the Institut Valencià de Cultura - Filmoteca de la Generalitat Valenciana, will run from January to December 2022. Throughout these twelve months it will offer an approach to the history of the San Sebastian Festival with the screening of around 40 films that have passed through its programme since 1953, chosen mainly from the official sections and those dedicated to first productions.
The retrospective aims to be a small brushstroke of the history of the Zinemaldia as varied as possible, including filmmakers and films that have marked the last 70 years of cinema history. In this first quarter, films by Douglas Sirk, Jean Cocteau, Howard Hawks, Volker Schlöndorff, Margarethe von Trotta, Ingmar Bergman and Josefina Molina, among others, will be shown.
The cycle will kick off on January 5 with the screening of Jacques Becker's film Paris, Underworld (Casque d'Or, 1952), which was screened at the 1st San Sebastian International Film Week (1953).
The cycle will be accompanied by the publication of the book Zinemaldia 1953-2022. Singularidades del Festival de Donostia / San Sebastián, No. 18 of the Nosferatu Collection, has been coordinated by Quim Casas. It will be published in January.
