Short's session: COSTA and GODARD

A double session with the short films LAS HIJAS DEL FUEGO (Pedro Costa) and TRAILER OF THE FILM THAT WILL NEVER EXIST: Drôles de guerres -Phony Wars-, (Jean-Luc Godard)

Synopsis - Las hijas del fuego, Pedro Costa, Portugal, 2023, 8'.

A triptych of images that occupies the entire screen, a musical of pain and ecstasy featuring singers Elizabeth Pinard, Alice Costa and Karyna Gomes as women separated from each other after the eruption of the volcanic island of Fogo in Cape Verde in 1951. They sing a Ukrainian folk song.

At the time of his death in September 2022, Jean-Luc Godard was preparing his next feature film, the adaptation of Belgian writer Charles Plisnier's novel False Passports, published in 1937.

Although the feature film was never made, the intricate and beautiful trailer that Godard assembled and saw finalised stands as his last work, a complex collage of history, politics and cinema assembled with paper and glue, paintings and photographs, sound and silence.
