Spectral Exchange is an on-going project that takes its content and structure from the non-visible electromagnetic spectrum (infrared, microwaves, and radio to one side of the visible; and ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma rays to the other). The investigation, use, and abuse of the non-visible spectrum is an  essential component of modernity and contemporary life. Invisible energies of various wavelengths are involved in the mechanisms of mass media and mass communication, non-human sensory systems both animal and machinic, climatic and cosmic phenomena, past and potential unfoldings of evolution and extinction, paranormal phenomenon and metaphysical speculations. An interdisciplinary methodological experiment, Spectral Exchange seeks to use the electromagnetic spectrum as both a structural and thematic framework to draw out connections between disparate domains of knowledge and practice.

The first public program on 16-17 November will bring together artists, curators, cultural theorists and scientists for two days of lectures, exercises, film screenings, and discussions. This is the result of Matthew C. Wilson residency for artistic research projects.
