SUPERLOCAL: 0-Mile Production is a global network that promotes local production, fostering a forward-looking view towards handicrafts and production in general. Based on the Fablabs network, this project represents a new layer thereof, which also covers traditional manufacturing techniques. Each SUPERLOCAL item is produced through a combination of new and old manufacturing techniques.
During the workshop, which will take place at Hirikilabs, we will make a series of objects that have been designed and are manufactured with the purpose of using the materials and production facilities available at Tabakalera and in the surrounding area. Each item we make will combine traditional and digital manufacturing techniques while likewise following the SUPERLOCAL system philosophy.
The goal of SUPERLOCAL is to become a movement made up of people who bring together local resources and local labour to create a global impact. The project helps local communities and economies, promotes the handicraft traditions inherent to each place, and fosters a new manufacturing mindset.
