Since the first time I stopped to look at a drill tower, they have never ceased to draw my attention whenever I come across one. The more I look at them, the more I feel that these buildings have a deeply poetic essence. These are towers where rescue teams simulate accidents, rescue operations and all kinds of extreme situations. Simulations and trainings are carried out inside them and on their façades, from rescuing victims to putting out fires. Only when an accident is simulated does the tower come to life. However, when no fiction is played out in them, the buildings lie inert, empty, like resting stage sets. It is in these architectures where I want to set the stage for my project and talk about the representation of reality and simulation.
In “A Tower in Flames” I want to explore in more depth this type of simulation space and, using the material I document, I will focus on the duality between the “on” and “off” of the simulations that take place, in order to produce content where the boundaries between reality and fiction are blurred.
