Vanesa Fernández Guerra

Zinebi Festival Director. Vanesa Fernández Guerra holds a Doctorate in Audiovisual Communication from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), and currently coordinates the Audiovisual Communications undergraduate programme (UPV/EHU). She holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication and is a specialist in Audiovisual Writing and Documentaries. Since 2004, Vanesa has also been teaching and taking on management tasks for the undergraduate programme, as well as various master’s programmes at the UPV/EHU, Barcelona’s UAB, and Grupo EiTB. For years, Vanesa has been balancing her academic activity with her career as a producer and editor of television projects.

She is a coordinator for the multi-disciplinary Territorios y Fronteras project. Vanesa researches documentary filmmaking focused on contemporary Spanish documentary film, inviting well-known directors, academics, and top film critics to foster a meeting place for debate and reflection.

Vanesa Fernández has collaborated with ZINEBI for years as a member of the short-subject film selection committee, as well as programming the full-length feature film competition for ZIFF-Zinebi First Film in the Beautiful DOCS cycle, special screenings, and other cycles.

Likewise, she has also worked as a freelance consultant on film project development. In addition, Vanesa has taken part in numerous film project development and production assessment committees, expert panels at Work In Progress Forums, LABs, and pitching sessions at various international festivals. She has also participated as a judge at numerous national and international festivals.
