Scottie (James Stewart) is a policeman forced to retire after falling from the roof of a building. The accident causes him to suffer from vertigo. In spite of everything, he accepts the job of spying on Madeleine (Kim Novak), the wife of a friend, who is behaving strangely. As the investigation progresses, Scottie falls in love with her. This psychological thriller is about obsession and the fragile nature of love.
Vertigo is one of those hypnotic films that never ceases to surprise the viewer and in 2012 was chosen as the best film of all time. The script is based on the novel Sueurs froides: d’entre les morts and portrays a peculiar love story shot in San Francisco.
The world premiere was at the San Sebastian International Film Festival (1958) and although it was not well received by the public, Hitchcock won the Silver Shell for best director. After 61 years, Vertigo has not lost any of its suspense and returns to Donostia with the copy restored by Universal Studios from the VistaVision negative.
