Having exhausted all the pleasures of life, Roberto is prey to a deep autumnal tedium. Some might call him a dandy; others a libertine. One night, back in the salons of Lisbon after a long journey, he happens to meet a mysterious woman, the wife of one of Spain’s richest men. This unexpected meeting, and its story of absolute love and heinous crime will forever disturb his vision of the world.

A free adaptation of the short story of the same name from the collection Las diabólicas (1874), by Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly.
