Rosa Casado and Mike Brookes

Rosa Casado & Mike Brookes are two multidisciplinary artists who, on the basis of action, generate a process of reflection, creation and critique with respect to the spaces that we move through, occupy and inhabit. They understand space to be the field of (human and non-human) relations, negotiations and practices of participation; and their intention is to propose works which make clear that what is happening is “us”, “here” and “now”. Rosa Casado’s background is mainly in scenic practice, but her interest in contexts has led her to explore environmental studies, systems and complexity, and physics. Mike Brookes, whose background is in the plastic arts, has been developing a research project that traverses several media, such as painting, drawing, performance and text, amongst others. Rosa and Mike have been collaborating since the year 2000 and together they have produced over a dozen projects. Their works approach conceptualism using a pragmatic gaze and they are interested in literalness and the obvious as a resource for practice.
