The Basque Language in the Dictionary, 2021* The English Language in the Dictionary (Horma paper bertsioa), 2021**

Lisa Tan takes several language dictionaries and brings together all the words with definitions accompanied by an illustration or image. For the exhibition Komunikazio-inkomunikazio she created a wallpaper composed of images from the dictionary of the English language (Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, 10th edition), and two framed prints based on the dictionary of the Basque language (Adorez Eskola Hiztegia, 15th edition). As a whole, the pieces transform the empirical into poetic and the poetic into political.
They reflect the particular concerns and values of a language culture, including the way it views the function and ownership of knowledge.
