Aitzpea Leizaola

Anthropology professor in UPV/EHU and doctor in Paris Nanterre University.  She holds degrees in anthropology and philology from the Paris X and Sorbonne Universities. It was there where she undertook graduate studies in both areas. In 2010, she defended her thesis in anthropology at the Paris X Nanterre University, obtaining the maximum score, on the political effects of the border in the Basque Country, basing said thesis on the issues of identity and territoriality. Her fieldwork was carried out on both sides of the border, mainly between Sara and Zugarramurdi.

She complemented her post-graduate training at various international universities such as Freie Universitat of Berlin, Queen’s University of Belfast, and the Basque Studies Center of Reno. In 2000 and 2001, she was a Basque Visiting Fellow at St Anthony’s College of the University of Oxford.
