The Mugak/Fronteras Seminar is part of a broader research project devised by Maite Garbayo and undertaken in Tabakalera throughout 2017. The seminar arises to provide a sort of closure for the work undertaken, and it proposes the coming together of researchers and thinkers from different geographical areas to reflect on the concept of border and discuss different border-related realities.
The Mugak/Fronteras Project proposes thinking about the border beyond its geopolitical nature; considering it as the epistemology of exteriority and as a questioning of the devices for the production and administration of knowledge. As a place of dissent that resists essentialisms – as well as territorial, identity, and disciplinary hierarchies.
For three days, various aspects will be addressed in relationship with border thinking, and multiple borders will be discussed, such as that of the Basque country, the border that separates Europe from Africa, and the one that divides Mexico and the United States – one of the world's busiest.
