In my latest projects, I am working on the idea of the line that separates the digital and physical worlds, and how advances in technologies are increasingly blurring this line. I am interested in the connection between the material and immaterial, between what we consider real and what we don’t. When it comes to creating 3D images and videos, I do this by leaning in to the use of elements from the physical world like 360º HDR images to illuminate and place the pieces that I model in a concrete space, with scans and photographs of different natural and artificial elements to create textures. Work processes have been a very important part of my pieces, but when working almost exclusively with digital formats I am currently interested in experimenting with other working methods due to the technological advances that increasingly automate these processes, transferring my virtual pieces to the physical world. To do this, I am creating 3D prints, undergoing modelling and casting procedures, incorporating different natural and artificial materials, and constructing a traditional way of creating tangible objects that can be complemented by my digital works. Some of these new pieces could be returned to the virtual world through 3D scanning, since what truly interests me is achieving results that may seem similar at first glance, but stem from entirely different processes. The ultimate goal will be to alternate between tangible and digital works, creating spaces in which to experiment with the physical and virtual simultaneously, that serve to facilitate more complete interactions with the pieces, defying the viewer’s perception when interpreting their nature, and encouraging reflection on the role of technology in our understanding of reality and our connection with the world around us.
