DANIEL MUÑOZ'S ARTWORK

// A room in the old house in which the railway workers' families lived in the railway station called “Río Tajo”, currently unused and hidden among tunnels. Above the train tracks, the window frames a peaceful landscape with the River Tajo and a tower belonging to the semi-submerged Alconétar Templar castle (mentioned anecdotally in El Quijote). In 1969, Francoist hydrographic plans resulted in this fortification and the Medieval town it belonged to being submerged under the current Alcántara reservoir//

Space as a container of history. A metaphysical and social box as an accumulator of historical strata, social, industrial and geological evolutions. The abandonment of this space as one of its possibilities. This space as the framework for the development of a series of necessary uses depending on the context, depending on the discourse, depending on the conversation.

A conversation between the space and the location. Between space and time. Between space and use. A conversation between the social, political, ecological and cultural practices of each moment. A room as a framework in which to intervene, to hold a conversation. A room that converses with the location. A location that converses with history. A history that someone writes. A text that has an answer. An answer that becomes an intervention.

Intervention is a term originating from military language that refers to acting. Doing. Today it is an idea that cuts through disciplines, policies and territories. Interventions in space, architectural, urban, surgical interventions, hydrographic, economic interventions… It is also linked to countless actions, some premeditated, casual, intentional; others mistaken, temporary… There are many ways of intervening in the landscape, be it a physical landscape or a historical, emotional, political or conceptual landscape.

The idea of landscape as an artistic creation (written, painted, recorded…). Describing the landscape, painting the landscape, framing the landscape, the landscape as a framework for intervention, soundscape. Consuming and creating the landscape. Creation of image, screenshot, save in photos, close window.

To the left of the window, someone wrote: "And look to the horizon and no one replies to you".
