Moving Image Contours: Points for a surrounding movement combs the perimeter of moving image art in search of cinematic expressions or traces in projects where film  seems to disappear, where it is still to come, where it is being resisted, where it is rarefied, taken to the limit or where it only exist as a quote or as a reiterated absence. The exhibition diverts from moving image as a result or exhibition object, in order to inquire about the conditions for its production, reproduction, transmission and legal or imaginary survival.

 

Moving image reappears in the exhibition under other forms: as a grammar, a form of labour, a critical scope, a shared archive, a way of acting or as a catalyser of  commonality. Because of its liminal standing point, the exhibition brings into play formats and durations that are unusual in relation to cinematic practices. Moving Image Contours inscribes within the exhibition’s space-time situations in which moving image is in process, fragmented, performed, verbalised, turned into a happening or obsessively rehearsed. The artworks can be thought of as a series of points to surround the moving image field that could potentially become their outline, or blur it.

 

 

Moving Image Contours: Points for a surrounding movement is an exhibition that unfolds as a counterpoint to the online publication of Apología/Antología: Video Itineraries through the Spanish Context. However, if the notion of “itinerary” in Apología/Antología suggests an examination of the interior of moving image practice,  the exhibition is conceived as a surrounding movement to explore its outside, or to look at it from the outside. To put it in another way, the exhibition shares the moving image obsession with Apología/Antología but it searches for it where it hybridises with other languages or exists in other situations.

 

 

The exhibition revolves around the concept of the audiovisual medium from the outside and seeks references and relationships with other languages or situations where it is hybridised. This exhibition unfolds from the Apología/Antología, project, developed in collaboration with the producer HAMACA and the University of the Basque Country, which will also be presented within the framework of the exhibition. The exhibition will include works by 26 national and international artists, some of whom will present new work.
