Raúl Jiménez (Madrid, 1967) is a cosmologist and theoretical astrophysicist. His field of research tries to understand the fundamental laws of nature through observations of the cosmos. He was one of the first to develop Bayesian techniques for analysing cosmological data. He received his bachelor's degree and master's degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid, both in theoretical physics. He did his Ph.D. at the University of Copenhagen in 1995 and later was a researcher at the Royal Observatory of the University of Edinburgh. After a period of 10 years in which he was a professor at the American universities Rutgers and Penn State, he returned to Europe in 2008 as an ICREA Professor at University of Barcelona. He is currently a Visiting Distinguished Professor at the Imperial College of London. He has also been a member of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University, CERN, and a distinguished visiting professor at Princeton University.
