Scala is a new installation encompassing the building's main staircase. It intends to explore the countless languages and means of approaching music and sound by generating new and unexpected interactions between the sonic pieces and an architectural space used by a heterogeneous and mobile public.
Scala uses the three flights of Tabakalera’s central staircase to represent the harmonic division of the audible spectrum into deep, middle and high-pitched tones. Using this physical correspondence, the project incorporates historical works and new productions specifically for this exhibition, which will be rotated on a four-monthly basis.
Scala is an invitation to delve deeper into musical and extra-musical relationships, into what we hear and don’t hear, and into the exchange that happens between sound and sense and between the human and the mechanical.
