orain diseinua! euskadi eta industria presents a selection of industrial products with the aim of showcasing the designs produced by companies of the Basque Country. After undertaking a study of more than one hundred companies, 120 pieces have been selected from 40 companies and public and private collections.
The exhibition is organised into four sections to present a chronological look at the history of Basque design from the end of the nineteenth century to modern times. The pieces on display range from artisanal pieces to armoury tools and products; they span sectors such as the machine tool sector and construction sector and include designs from the textile industry, furniture designs, and sport designs.
orain diseinua! euskadi eta industria aims to present –in a cohesive and coherent way– a part of history that is currently fragmented throughout the region and hard to find complete in the literature. The exhibition is an approximation –a starting point– from which the history of the Basque Country's design can be constructed. A history that is full or excellent designs which satisfy functional needs while also providing aesthetic value. The exhibition is an invitation to contemplate objects that, despite being present in our daily lives, must be heralded as examples of our modern culture, industry, and economy thanks to their excellent design.
orain diseinua! euskadi eta industria is curated by Gillermo Zuaznabar and produced by Tabakalera, the Regional Government of Gipuzkoa, and the SPRI Basque Business Development Agency under Mugak, the Second International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country.
