Liberation requires a radical change
in the way life is organised in every sense
Pineda, Empar; Olivan, Montse; Uría, Paloma (1985). Polémicas Feministas, p. 46.
A session with Elena Casado Aparicio on women’s work in the everyday sustaining of life, rethinking the categories of productive/reproductive/unproductive, and on the power of collaborative methodologies and methodological collaborations. The session is in two parts, a co-laboratory and a lecture. The two parts are independent, though interconnected.
PROGRAMME:
THURSDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER. 10:00-14:00. WORKSHOP ROOM
Co-laboratory on the notion of work, considering the potential and limits of the dichotomies with which it is commonly related (productive/reproductive, work/employment, labour/domestic) and some contemporary uses (care work, emotional work, etc.). Based on the conviction that knowledge is distributed and that it is therefore necessary to practise what Boaventura de Sousa Santos calls an “ecology of knowledge”, we will draw on our specific experiences and contributions from various women who will invite us to use them to overcome inertias and place the everyday sustaining of life at the centre of the debate.
Access by: registration
THURSDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER. 19:00. Storage
Open lecture followed by a debate on the issues addressed in the co-laboratory. Recovering some rather forgotten traditions from social science and feminist artistic proposals, we shall review the notion of work, critically analyse its presuppositions (paying particular attention to processes of gender differentiation) and identify certain proposals on which to continue working together.
Open access.
