Nora Aurrekoetxea Etxebarria (Bilbao, 1989) is currently living in Holland. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country (2013), and is studying for a Master’s degree in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in London (2017-2019). In parallel, she studied a Postgraduate degree in Sexology (2014-2016) and Advanced Sexology (2021) at the In.Ci.Sex Institute (Madrid). She began her artistic practice together with artist Laura Ruiz Sáenz for 5 years (2013-2017). Alongside with Irati Urrestarazu and Izaro Ieregi, she founded and directed OKELA sormen lantegia (2014-2017), a contemporary art space geared towards artists located in Bilbao.
Nora Aurrekoetxea Etxebarria was a resident artist at BilbaoArte (Bilbao, 2015), Y residency (Athens, 2016), Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, 2018), Solomon R. Guggenheim (New York, 2018), DerdeWal (Nijmegen, 2021), and will soon take up a residency at Youkobo Art Space (Tokyo, 2022). She has received the Bizkaia Provincial Council Grant (2015), the Basque Government Art Production Grant (2018, 2019, and 2021), the Botín Foundation Grant (2017), the Community of Madrid's ARCO award (2020), second prize at ERTIBIL (2021), Instituto Etxepare (2021), Groeispurtfonds (2021), and La Casa Encendida’s Generaciones 2022 (2021).
Recent showings include an individual exhibition at Intersticio (London, 2020), the Juan Silió gallery (Madrid, 2020), and collective exhibitions such as Claro del Bosque at Intersticio (Madrid, 2020), and We Are Always In Danger Of Magic at the Rodriguez Gallery (Poznan, 2021), Latent Longing SUPER preview (London 2021), HAUS WIEN (Vienna, 2021), ECDYSIS, Staffordshire Studios (London, 2021), and State of Cling, Omstand (Arnhem, 2021).
Her work is part of the permanent collection of the CA2M museum (Madrid) and the Botín Centre (Santander).
