Ragnhild May is a visual arts scholar with a Master of Fine Arts in Music and Sound from Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts (US) and a Poster-Master of Fine Arts in Sound Art from Royal Institute of Arts Stockholm (SE). She is currently completing her PhD fellowship at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (DK).

With this educational background in visual arts and music composition, she combines sculptural practice with performance and sound art. She works with sound installation, sculptural objects, performance, vinyl releases, graphic notation, text and instrument technology. Sound is the material focal point for her works. She believes the force of this media is that it can activate many different fields of knowledge. Visual arts, composition, humanistic theory such as posthumanism, feminism and sound studies as well as exact sciences such as acoustics, circuit building and programming are all relevant to her work.
