Raquel Meyers is a multi-disciplinary artist living in Bilbao, that defines her practice as expanded typing (KYBDslöjd) whose meaning could be defined broadly as “manual distress with a keyboard”, that materialises the characters of text and typing of keys beyond the screen, and questions our parasitic relationship with technology. It is not a mere arbitrary invention. It has its roots and references in the typewriter, concrete poetry, demoscene, and brutalism. The typewriter provides the execution while poetry contributes with a system of brutal language that must be learned. The tyranny of easy-to-use and immediate satisfaction are no more than tactics of dissuasion that are leading us towards the rubbish bin and boredom. We live in the digital era, and no one is safe from its paradoxes. The future is typed.

Since 2004, her work has been shown at centres of art, galleries, and festivals such as Ars Electronica, Transmediale, Xpo Gallery, La Casa Encendida, Liste Art Fair Basel, La Gaîté lyrique, Tokyo Blip Festival, Square Sounds Melbourne, BilbaoArte, LABoral, Supernova Digital Animation Festival, iMAL, VISION’R, Mapping, Piksel, Shibuya Pixel Art, LEV, MFRU, HeK, ETOPIA, Eufònic Urbà, and more.
