In this seminar, we will explore the idea that knowledge is grown through participating with others in a process of joint attention and mutual responsiveness which Ingold’s call ‘correspondence’.The anthropologist will contrast correspondence with the more conventional idea of interaction, and show how it is rooted in three principles: of habit, agenceing and attentionality. Examples will be drawn from practices of walking, instrumental music, reading and writing.
