Tomás Pollán is Professor of Anthropology and the Philosophy of Culture at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid, and carried out postgraduate studies at the University of Tübingen. He obtained a ‘Maîtrise’ in Anthropology from the L´École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, and studied for two years in the Collège de France under Claude Lévi-Strauss.

He was Visiting Professor in the London School of Economics during 1992 and 1994, and held the same position at the University of the Basque Country from 1981 to 1987. Pollán has given courses and talks in several European and American universities, and does so annually at the University of California and the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City.

His publications include: Mito y Escritura (Myth and Scripture); Mito, símbolo y Alegoría (Myth, Symbol and Allegory); El concepto de mímesis en el arte y la filosofía griega (The Concept of Mimesis in Art and Greek Philosophy); El Paradigma de la deuda y la mentalidad sacrificial (The Paradigm of Doubt and Sacrificial Mentality); and Variaciones sobre el bricoleur (Variations on Bricoleur).
