In 2017, I started writing on the back of illuminated billboards.
These billboards advertised cars and alcoholic drinks.
They are lit up during the night, at a time when there is a greater flow of people.
I realised that the LED light shone through the cracks and holes of the structure.
I began writing words with the help of a drill. Each letter is formed by holes that allow the LED light through.
The first words and phrases that I wrote were connected with the experiences and imaginary of the time.
A turning point came when I stopped to think about the origin of the light. I seek an independence from energy, or rather, a more natural relationship with energy. In this search, I found the perfect place: a metal structure which was once used to store construction material, mostly bricks.
Máscaras de luz (Masks of Light) consists of drilling holes to form a series of masks over signs.
The light of the sun draws on the face of whoever looks through the holes.
Signs are not chosen randomly. They read: Waste and rubble prohibited. Environmental recovery area.
I like to imagine that each mask (comprising the structure of the sign and my perforations) corresponds to or supports some natural element.
Concepts and ideas that revolve around environmental recovery and awareness.
A complementing aspect is the idea of using the waste found to foster protection.
Around 15 different masks will educate the spectator on the social and environmental situation on the planet.
