Sahatsa Jauregi’s sculptures are constructed of objects from different origins to create complex mechanical gears. Each piece works like an incoherent organism, seeking tension between its parts and its whole. Lately, she has been reflecting on the organic experience (body) and technology (machine) through these structures that could be possible prosthetics for bodies that seem unknown to us.
The installation “La Rueda Perforada” (The Perforated Wheel) was created specifically for this exhibition, and draws on the unease provoked by the attraction to brilliant images and their constant reproduction. The images evoke the new phantasmagorias that are replicated through accumulation, oppression, restructuring, and fortuitous organisation.
This centreless imagination places the observer before the omnivorous, savage spiral following the Internet era. “La Rueda Perforada” is a specific organisation of objects that have learned to be at ease in this drift, something that wants to force us to pause in this infinite flux.
