Food and maker practices for a sustainable future
Eginzaleak! is an annual meeting that celebrates the culture of ‘making’ and collaborative practices around technology, creativity and shared knowledge. This event has established itself as a showcase for the projects developed during the year at Medialab, also inviting other groups and agents who share an open philosophy based on DIY (Do It Yourself).
This year's edition of Eginzaleak! will be held in collaboration with Food Hack Lab, an open group that explores technologies that intervene in the entire food value chain, from production to consumption, always from a sustainable and free culture perspective. Thanks to this collaboration, this year's theme will revolve around the relationship between food and maker practices, highlighting creative, innovative, sustainable and circular solutions in urban and peri-urban contexts.
Throughout the day, Tabakalera will become a space for reflection and experimentation, with workshops, talks and demonstrations for the whole family that explore new ways of producing and consuming food responsibly. From cultivation systems to biomaterials created from waste, this event will bring together collectives, designers and researchers who seek to rethink our relationship with food and the urban environment through community participation.
The day will be structured in three thematic blocks active throughout the day (11:00-14:00/ 17:00-20:00):
1. Food production and urban gardens: We will explore new forms of cultivation in small spaces, such as hydroponic systems, urban gardens on balconies and vegetable oases that improve climate sustainability and comfort in built environments.
-Antonio Scarponi
2. Eating habits and innovative equipment: We will reflect on how we can redesign the way we prepare, preserve and enjoy food in our everyday environments. From tools that transform domestic spaces into culinary laboratories to solutions that optimise energy efficiency and reduce waste, this block will explore how design and technology can drive more sustainable, healthy and creative habits in everyday urban life.

-Slow Lab

3. Circularity and biomaterials: We will investigate how we can reuse food by-products and explore innovative materials for the creation of other objects, closing the consumption cycle and promoting a circular economy approach.
