The community arts programme from CAPP (Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme) is the starting point for a mediation residency in the International Centre for Contemporary Culture Tabakalera. It promotes the appropriation and use of this public space by young people who visit the cultural centre without any ties to its programme. The residency aims to stimulate reflection on public space and youth identity, and to conceive and launch methodologies which connect the young people who use this space with Tabakalera's cultural programme.

The 38,000-square metre space of Tabakalera houses many open, undesignated areas known as ‘street spaces’. These clear, sparsely furnished spaces can be used freely by visitors to the centre. Many groups of young people flock to these 'street spaces’ with the arrival of the rain and the cold during the winter months, especially during weekends, although without having any real involvement in the cultural and contemporary art programme that Tabakalera offers.

The mediation project is a dialogue with these youths that uses teaching and artistic strategies to get them more actively involved in the design and use of these ‘street spaces’.

Artist and educator Felipe Polanía will be one of the residents, along with mediator and creator Oihane Espúñez as a local partner. The residency will take place in separate periods, from February 20 to March 26, and from May 5to May 14, 2017.

This project is part of the activities of the CAPP Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme.
