Scala. Making Conversation (work process). crys cole & Oier Etxeberria

During this conversation, artist Crys Cole will discuss the work process that gave us Making Conversation (2023), a piece that Cole is presenting as an installation at Scala. Many of the artist’s compositions are shaped by non-musical structures and patterns that she observes in her daily life. The sound landscapes that surround us every day: domestic sounds, street activity, natural sounds, industrial sounds, and engines. In this sense, her work consists of drawing attention to the interaction between them, the way in which these abstract and apparently disconnected sounds coexist to create a fascinating interaction that can be listened to or interpreted as its own unique music. The aim of this session is therefore to dive deeper into these ideas and listen live to fragments of recordings created during her stay in Bali, as well as other examples that have served as inspiration during production work.
