eremuak sessions 2024

This year’s sessions have been designed based on the exhibition and all the agents involved in the process. We propose the “E(s\x)oterismoak reaching out to the public” sessions as a meeting place for artists, mediators and curators etc., with the aim of giving an account of the complex relationships and multiple channels through which art happens in the public arena. 

We wanted to highlight and make connections between artistic practices and projects that point to a shifting of the limits or a discomfort with the conventional exhibition space: what it means to be within the art system or to work at the boundaries, with, through or outside the institutional. 

As a novelty, we will present a new space within the conference: FILM MATERIAL, a curatorial space for the presentation of audiovisual proposals. The curatorship will be rotating, and this year Manuel Cirauqui will be kicking off the cycle. FILM MATERIAL will also have its first space in eremuak magazine #11.

The participating artists are: Ane Berganza, Mariano Mayer & Isabel de Naverán, Haiek (Ion Arregi & Martín Ferrán), Sergio Prego, Inazio Escudero, Pedro G. Romero, Kinu#11+1 (Leire Lacunza, Imanol Expósito, Paula Guerrero), Elbis Rever, Mirari Echavarri, Oriol Fontdevila, Mattin, Iñigo Villafranca, DAS (Joel Englund, Camila Téllez, Myriam Rzm) and Manuel Cirauqui.

The conceptualisation and design of the conference has been the responsibility of the current members of the eremuak technical committee: Leire Muñoz, Iñaki Garmendia and Raúl Domínguez.

The conference will also be an opportunity to present some of the projects supported through eremuak in the last year, such as the YVM-High Desert Residence (CA, USA).

In addition, during the conference, the magazine eremuak#11 will be presented, the twelfth issue of the magazine published since 2013, with annual circulation and free distribution.

The magazine eremuak#11, like this year’s conference, will revolve around the exhibition event, with contributions from artists and agents present in the artistic context who have worked to bring into question a series of models representing what the public exhibition of work entails, allowing this debate to continue.

The artists participating in the magazine are: Andrea Rodrigo and Bulegoa z/b, Aimar Arriola, Miguel A. García and Enrike Hurtado, Atoi (Ainara Elgoibar-Usue Arrieta) and Paula Guerrero, 101 collective, Pierre Bal Blanc and Mattin, Antonio Menchen, Estéfana Román, Leire Lacunza, Beatriz Olabarrieta, Mikel Pejenaute and Manuel Cirauqui.

As on other occasions, eremuak#11 includes the activity generated by the HARRIAK initiative, aimed at activating new spaces for mediation, exhibition and dissemination of contemporary art. HARRIAK takes place in the cultural spaces of the Basque Autonomous Community, with artists and mediators that have been participating in the initiative since 2016 developing artistic projects to encourage emerging art.
